While recommending Eevee x Tamagotchi is perhaps a stretch for casual players, it's interesting to see how The Pokémon Company and Bandai – two firms that were sworn enemies during the Pokémon and Digimon war of the '90s and '00s – have fused their beloved properties together in a form that makes sense.īy removing the 'good' and 'bad' mutations of a traditional Tamagotchi and replacing them with a wide range of evolutions that require different tactics, the longevity of this device is arguably extended way beyond your typical virtual pet the only downside to this is that by giving the player the chance to directly control each evolution, that unpredictable sense of discovery which made the original Tamagotchi so addictive is sacrificed. If you're a fan of either series, then the chances are you've already moved heaven and earth to secure one of these units – a task that appears to be becoming harder by the day, as several big online exporters have completely sold out. These all require certain conditions to be met, and getting all of them is quite a challenge. There are three bonus evolutions to unlock, too: Pop Star Eevee, Team Rocket Eevee and Ditto Eevee. The 'mon will then evolve in a few days, provided you continue to look after it. For example, if you want to evolve into Flareon then you need to collect the corresponding icon during the fruit-drop mini-game instead of collecting your fifth and final piece of fruit. Depending on which form you want – Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon or Sylveon – you have to perform certain actions. These are relatively basic games and it's hard to lose at them, but they're a mild diversion from the basic 'guess the direction' game that shipped with the original Tamagotchi back in the '90s.Įevee x Tamagotchi adds value by giving you the chance to evolve Eevee into one of its many forms. The first involves using the A and B buttons to collect five items of falling fruit, while the second has you repeating a musical sequence played by Eevee.

You will need 7-zip if you are on Windows (Linux handles most archives, so you don't need anything special). The two mini-games are how you entertain Eevee and keep it happy, beyond simply feeding it and cleaning up its discarded hair.

(When this happens, the Undertale soul icon will appear in the notification area of your taskbar, and you can interact with it, but no Ralsei will be on your screen.)

Fortunately, you don't have to give up 64 bit Java, you just have to make sure your computer doesn't force it on the program.
#Pokemon desktop pet 32 bit
Though it requires 32 bit Java, even if you have a 64 bit system. On the more technical side of things, the program itself is written in Java, so it should be cross-platform - one of the reasons I picked this one as a template. People who know what they are doing (and can understand Japanese programming) can even make shimeji that interact with each other. They climb along the edges of your screen, can be picked up and moved around with your mouse, and sometimes even can catch the edges of windows that aren't maximized. (Asriel was my favorite character from Undertale to begin with.)įor those who don't know (and didn't understand what I meant in the title), a shimeji is a Japanese term for a little desktop buddy that walks around your monitor, and interacts with things on your desktop.

He's definitely cute, definitely fluffy, and I use him more than I use the Asriel one. Still, if anyone better at spriting than me wants to take this and do something better with it, be my guest (and let me know when you're done!) That doesn't mean it wasn't an absolute nightmare to make, though. Some of the animations are a bit crudely assigned (Ralsei levitates at the top of the screen instead of climbing), but everything worked out surprisingly well considering most of it was just a sprite rip. I was quite surprised (and relieved) that there were so many sprites than there would have been in Undertale.

(I can't even find who made the original, since the pastebin I got the download from didn't say.) Here's the link to that pastebin if you are interested: It has a lot of other Undertale-related shimeji as well.Īll the images used are from the game itself, or minor edits of those. It's a simple conversion of the Asriel shimeji that was so popular a while ago. I just finished this little guy (and man is my neck sore).
